M6toll Announces Changes to Toll Prices and Introduces a 5% Discount Scheme or Tag Users

At the same time a new discount scheme* will be introduced to reward frequent users who have a Tag account. A Tag is the M6toll's electronic payment system that allows drivers to pass through a toll station without stopping to pay by cash or card.

The main changes will be as follows:
At main Toll Plazas for Class 1 (e.g. motorbikes) and Class 2 (e.g. cars) prices will increase by 50p (day rate)
At main Toll Plazas for Classes 3, 4 and 5 (e.g. cars with trailer, vans and HGVs) prices will increase by £1 (day rate)
Existing Tag customers, or anyone who signs up to a Tag account will receive a discount
Tom Fanning, managing director of MEL, said: "The M6toll, Britain's first privately-funded motorway, is a major success story. The road provides customers with reliable journey times and the choice of a stress free, free-flowing alternative to the congested M6.

"This is the first increase we've made to the standard rate since the road opened in December 2003. We believe the new toll schedule remains excellent value for money.

"We also want to recognise our regular users who hold Tag accounts and to encourage new Tag accounts. Our Tag customers assist us in delivering a free-flowing road and are our most loyal customers. To reward Tag account holders we're delighted to introduce a new discount scheme for this group of customers," Mr Fanning said.

Tag accounts can be opened for a monthly lease fee of only 50p per Tag. Tag account holders will then benefit from a discount of 5 per cent on every trip they make.

Tom Fanning said: "The M6toll is a world class motorway and we're continually looking to improve the high quality of the service we provide. For example, we've recently introduced dedicated Tag Lanes and provided Tag account holders with access to their account details online. We also have plans to upgrade signage, not only on the M6toll but also on roads surrounding and leading to the toll motorway."

Mr Fanning concluded: "There are no plans to review the standard toll prices again during the next 12 months".

The toll for HGVs remains significantly below the standard rate of £11 announced in May 2003.

Class 2 traffic exiting via all local junctions will benefit from a £1 discount compared to the new current toll rates at main plazas.

The following table summarises the toll rates (inclusive of VAT) that will apply from Tuesday 14 June 2005.
