£3,800 Thrown at St Giles Hospice

Customers using the M6toll occasionally miss the coin baskets and don't pick up the coins. Toll assistants collect the coins off the road and a donation is made at the end of every year to the hospice. The amount was boosted for 2005 by generous M6toll staff who, instead of sending Christmas cards to colleagues, made a donation to St Giles.

Tom Fanning, chief executive MEL, said: "This donation forms part of our ongoing support of a very worthwhile charity and we're happy to be able to support them in this way".

Peter Holliday, chief executive of St Giles Hospice, responded: "We're delighted to receive such a generous donation. Each year, St Giles relies on the generosity of the local community to raise £3.5m to fund the cost of providing our specialist service. A variety of initiatives enables this fundraising and the generosity of MEL is a unique example of a whole range of imaginative ides which, together, make it possible for St Giles to continue".

St Giles Hospice is a registered charity offering high-quality specialist medical and nursing care for people with cancer and other serious illnesses as well as providing support for their families and carers.
