M6toll Operator Invites Tenders for Improvements to M42

Midland Expressway Ltd, owners of the M6toll, today announced that they have invited tenders for improvement work on the southbound carriageway of the M42 motorway where it splits from the southern end of the M6toll.

The work, which will be funded by Midland Expressway Ltd through resources released from refinancing of the M6toll, will ease the congestion that currently occurs on the southbound carriageway of the M42 where it diverges from the M6toll. An additional lane and new sign gantries will be provided.
In agreement with the Highways Agency the work will be carried out whilst maintaining the existing number of lanes available to traffic during the daytime. Lane closures will be restricted to night-time when traffic flows are low in order to minimise delays to traffic. There will also be some overnight closures of the M42 and M6toll motorways when the gantries are being replaced.

The work is expected to start early in the New Year and be completed during Summer 2008.
