M6toll announces changes to toll prices

Midland Expressway Limited (MEL) today advised that new toll prices will apply on the M6toll road from 6:00 am on Tuesday 1 January 2008.

The main changes are:

- At main toll plazas for Class 2 (e.g. cars) the rate will increase by 50p

- Class 2 traffic exiting via all local small toll stations will continue to benefit from a £1.00 discount compared to the new toll rates at the main toll plazas

- At all toll plazas for Classes 3, 4 and 5 (e.g. cars with trailers, vans and HGVs respectively) the rate will increase by £1.00

- The monthly lease charge for tag accounts will increase by 50p per tag

- Current price levels are being maintained for Class 1 (e.g. motorcycles)

Tom Fanning, Chief Executive of MEL, said: "The M6toll, Britain's first privately-funded tolled motorway continues to be the most reliable route through the West Midlands by-passing the congested M6. We are providing an excellent service for our customers and the M6toll remains excellent value for money.

We have adjusted the monthly Tag lease fee, but have maintained the discount scheme. Regular customers can make their journey even more efficient by opening a tag account - a simple process that allows them to drive through the lanes without stopping."

Tag accounts can be opened for a monthly lease fee of only £1.00 per tag. Tag account holders then benefit from a discount of 5% on every trip they make.
The M6toll is recognised as world class motorway and is constantly seeking to improve its service and communication to customers.

"We plan to further upgrade signage in 2008 and are working with the Highways Agency to complete improvements to the merge with the M42 by June 2008. These measures and our future plans for a link to the M54 will further enhance our service and provide a great boost to the region" said Mr Fanning.
