Lucky Staffordshire student Elizabeth Campbell receives Scholarship

The students were awarded their £2,000 Scholarships at ceremonies at their respective schools.  The tenth of which was awarded to Elizabeth Campbell at St Joseph's College, Stoke-on-Trent on 16th January by Colin Mabey, MEL's Director of Systems & IT.

Elizabeth is studying a masters degree in physics at Imperial College, London. Elizabeth's passion for finding evidence led her to an interest in experimental physics, a career path where healthy scepticism is essential! She finds physics fascinating and is always eager to share my passion with the people around me; which is why one day she hopes to publish a book, article or paper on the role of physics in stopping climate change without stopping the progression of industry.

Following the overwhelming response from students to this year's inaugural MEL Student Scholarship, the application process for the school year 2012-13 will be launched later this month.

Tom Fanning, Chief Executive of Midland Expressway said: "Our business is located within the County and we wish to play our part in creating opportunity for our young people to develop their talents. Going on to university or college is a huge investment especially in these difficult times and we feel that this scholarship will make a real difference to local students and I call upon other local businesses in the region to follow our lead".

Leader of Staffordshire County Council Philip Atkins added:  "This scholarship is excellent news for young people in Staffordshire, and will give them welcome financial boost on their way to further education.  The essence of this scholarship is the emphasis not just on helping Staffordshire young people, but also what these young people can give back to Staffordshire once they have completed their education.  We are very keen to nurture the talent we have in this county, as well as ensuring the county as a whole benefits.  I want to congratulate Midland Expressway Limited for helping the county's young people, and echo their call to other businesses to follow suit."

Full details regarding the qualifying criteria and application process will be available on Midland Expressway's website www.m6toll.co.uk later this month.
