Lucky Staffordshire student Harry Glover receives Scholarship

The students were awarded their £2,000 Scholarships at ceremonies at their respective schools.  The sixth of which was awarded to Harry Glover at Thomas Alleynes High School, Uttoxeter on 5th January by Colin Mabey, MEL's Director of Systems & IT.

Harry is studying Chemical Engineering at Cambridge University.  Chemical Engineering has been a passion of Harry's for many years. The fascination of wide scale chemical production, especially the demanding need for new fuels in the future, has inspired him to pursue a career in this field. Upon graduating from University his initial plan is to go straight into employment in a region close to home. He dreams to one day design a huge functional plant that will be the first of its kind in the world that is both economically viable and environmentally friendly.

Following the overwhelming response from students to this year's inaugural MEL Student Scholarship, the application process for the school year 2012-13 will be launched later this month.

Tom Fanning, Chief Executive of Midland Expressway said: "Our business is located within the County and we wish to play our part in creating opportunity for our young people to develop their talents. Going on to university or college is a huge investment especially in these difficult times and we feel that this scholarship will make a real difference to local students and I call upon other local businesses in the region to follow our lead".

Leader of Staffordshire County Council Philip Atkins added:  "This scholarship is excellent news for young people in Staffordshire, and will give them welcome financial boost on their way to further education.  The essence of this scholarship is the emphasis not just on helping Staffordshire young people, but also what these young people can give back to Staffordshire once they have completed their education.  We are very keen to nurture the talent we have in this county, as well as ensuring the county as a whole benefits.  I want to congratulate Midland Expressway Limited for helping the county's young people, and echo their call to other businesses to follow suit."

Full details regarding the qualifying criteria and application process will be available on Midland Expressway's website www.m6toll.co.uk later this month.
