Midland Expressway Limited continue to assist local students on the road to success

Seven lucky Staffordshire and Stoke students were awarded with their £2,000 scholarships at an awards ceremony hosted by Staffordshire County Council on Thursday 27th September at the auspicious County Buildings, Oak Room, Stafford.

The scholarships were awarded by David Slater, Midland Expressway Limited's Finance Director to Luke Garner of Erasmus Darwin Academy, Louise Westoby of Netherstowe High School, Matthew Beech of Moorlands IV Form College, Dale Spratt and Caroline Shak of Thomas Alleyne's High School and Leo Vong and David Fitzpatrick of Stoke Sixth Form College.

All of the successful students are progressing their educational studies at university through a degree or equivalent accredited course in the Sciences, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics.

The scholarship is designed to support the students during their first year of university life.

Following the continued overwhelming response from students to this year's MEL Student Scholarship, the application process for academic year 2013-14 will be launched by the Midland Expressway Limited's Schools Foundation in January next year.

Tom Fanning, Chief Executive of Midland Expressway said: "Our business is located within the County and we wish to play our part in creating opportunity for our young people to develop their talents. Going on to university or college is a huge investment especially in these difficult times and we feel that this scholarship will make a real difference to local students and I call upon other local businesses in the region to follow our lead".

Leader of Staffordshire County Council Philip Atkins added:  "This scholarship is excellent news for young people in Staffordshire, and will give them welcome financial boost on their way to further education.  The essence of this scholarship is the emphasis not just on helping Staffordshire young people, but also what these young people can give back to Staffordshire once they have completed their education.  We are very keen to nurture the talent we have in this county, as well as ensuring the county as a whole benefits.  I want to congratulate Midland Expressway Limited for helping the county's young people, and echo their call to other businesses to follow suit."
