Midland Expressway Limited launch their Schools Foundation

Midland Expressway Limited (MEL), operators of the M6toll, are proud to announce the launch of their Schools Foundation. The M6toll continues to have a positive impact on the region, with the excellent transport link it provides, promoting inward investment, and the creation of 1000's of jobs. We have set up the MEL Schools Foundation as a vehicle for our commitment to continue investing responsibly in the wider community within the region in which we operate. The MEL Schools Foundation will look to incorporate the already successful MEL Student Scholarship Scheme, with other ventures to assist students within the local area.

The MEL Schools Foundation 2013 programme will include:-

  • Student Scholarship Scheme
The Student Scholarship Scheme aims to support Staffordshire students during academic year 2013-2014 as they progress from school /college at the age of 18/19 to further their educational studies through an accredited degree course or equivalent in the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM subjects).
  • Primary Schools Scheme
The Primary Schools Scheme aims to support Primary School students as they progress through years 1-6 by offering funding towards school based projects which will aid the development of students.
  • Free Passage on the M6toll
All secondary schools, colleges and sixth form academies in Staffordshire, who own and maintain their own school minibus, are eligible for free use of the M6toll for an initial period of one year (September 2013 - July 2014) by way of an M6toll Tag.

Tom Fanning, Chief Executive of MEL said: "Our business is located within the County and we wish to play our part in nurturing and creating opportunity for our young people to develop their talents and for them in turn to give back to the region once they have completed their education".

The Foundation will be inviting all Staffordshire Primary Schools who fall within a 5 mile radius of the M6toll to apply for a grant to fund a school based project under the Primary Schools Scheme which is launched today.

The application process for the Student Scholarship Scheme opens Monday 28th January 2013.
