Family fun run aims to raise cash for children’s garden in memory of Violet

A 5K family fun run is taking place at Alrewas in April to raise money for a memorial garden in honour of a special little girl.

Violet Mornington died, aged 5, in July 2013 of a rare blood disorder. Distraught her parents Kerry and Ivan wanted to do something positive and lasting as a tribute to their daughter and decided a children’s garden at Fradley Crematorium, near the family home, would be appropriate. The family fun run, which will take place at 10.30am on Sunday April 19 at Alrewas Cricket Club is the latest is a series of fund-raisers to help pay for the garden.

Violet’s mum Kerry said: “We are inviting runners of all ages and abilities to come along and take part. “You don’t have to be a serious runner – the main aim of the event is to have lots of fun.

“We want to see mums with prams, dads with toddlers, people in fancy dress and whole families taking part, they can even bring along their dogs.

“This is a great way to be active, have a laugh and raise money towards the charity’s first project, a children’s memorial garden which will be built within the grounds of Fradley and District Crematorium this summer.

“We hope that we get lots of people taking part helping to make this a really successful event.

“Every step taken and every blister gained will help us to help other bereaved parents and their families in the area who have suffered the same devastating loss as we have.”

KP Events is organising the fun run which is also supported by Dan Berry FMAA (Lichfield Martial Arts), M6 Toll and Citrus Research.
