M6toll provide funding for vital equipment for Staffordshire Search & Rescue Team

Volunteers from Staffordshire Search and Rescue Team (SSART) visited M6toll’s Head Office in Lichfield to be presented with a cheque for £432.00.

Midland Expressway Limited’s (MEL) donation is to be used to fund two essential casualty care medical bags; which contain vital medical equipment ranging from dressings to a trauma mask and oxygen bottle.

SSART is a team of 65 dedicated volunteers with specialist training to locate and rescue missing persons in Staffordshire.  Founded in 2004 to assist the Emergency Services and the Civil Contingencies Unit in Staffordshire, the rescuers respond to call-outs to search for vulnerable people throughout the Staffordshire region. Deteriorating mental ill health, dementia related conditions and substance misuse are common amongst missing people, and increase the risk of harm and vulnerability while missing.  Injured walkers and mountain bikers have also been rescued by the skilled searchers.

Kelly Bourne, MEL Social Committee Member said: “it was a pleasure to meet some of the SSART team and gain an understanding of the invaluable work they carry out in the region; giving up their time for free to train, paying for their own kit and regularly developing a variety of skills in order to serve the people of Staffordshire in their time of need.

As a Social Committee member, it was an easy choice to make to support SSART with their casualty care bag project and would urge other local businesses to do likewise in order for them to attain their target of four new bags.”

Dawn Hopley, Search Manager with SSART added:  “Thanks to the kind donation from MEL, our volunteers are now even better equipped to deal with situations where their expertise could be the difference between a life lost and a life saved. With the added benefit of our emergency vehicles now being fitted with M6toll Tags, we can now travel more efficiently throughout the region.”

SSART are always on the look-out for new volunteers.  If you think you’ve got what it takes, visit http://www.staffordshirelowlandrescue.org/ for more information.
