M6toll make ‘Purr-fect’ donation to Local Cat Rescue Centre
Staff from Midland Expressway Ltd (MEL) recently visited a local cat rescue centre in Great Wyrley after providing them with a donation towards the care of homeless and unwanted cats and kittens.
MEL operators of the M6toll proudly presented Malcolm Haynes, the Founder of Cats Whiskers Rescue in Great Wyrley with a cheque for £500 which was greatly appreciated as they are currently tackling a ‘cat crisis’; rescuing the increasing number of stray cats and covering the cost for them to be neutered. The Cats Whiskers Rescue is run from Malcolm’s back garden and has been established for almost 10 years; being a registered, voluntary run charity for 6 years. The team have more than 50 years’ experience between them with rescuing, caring & re-homing cats.
Malcolm was overjoyed with the donation and said ‘’ We are so grateful to Midland Expressway Ltd for this very generous donation which will help our Charity enormously. Our costs to neuter stray cats are ever increasing, with the cost of neutering 25 stray cats costing over £1,000”
Neville Chilton, an IT Manager at MEL said: “My family and I first met Malcom and his team of volunteers earlier in the year when we re-homed one of his cats. Having learned more about the centre and the amount of money and dedication required to run it, it was my pleasure to put forward the suggestion to provide them with funding to our Social Committee. Malcom is a remarkable man whose priority is very clearly the welfare of the cats in his care.
Each year, MEL donates £50,000 through its Drive for Charity project. MEL's Social Committee works closely with members of staff to choose community projects close to their hearts which will benefit from a donation from the Drive for Charity fund.
MEL's Social Committee is always looking for local charities and community projects to support. To register your charity or community project with MEL for consideration to receive fundraising or practical (volunteering) support now or in the future visit www.m6toll.co.uk/community/driveforcharity for further information or email firstname.lastname@example.org
