Lichfield Cricket Club bowled over by M6toll donation

Lichfield Nomads Cricket Club are bowled over after securing a funding from Midland Expressway Ltd (MEL), operators of the M6toll.

MEL’s Social Committee recently provided funding in the sum of £1,000 to enable the club to purchase a much-needed BOLA machine for the more mature players in the team.

Lichfield Nomads Cricket Club started in 1982 with a focus on playing the game for enjoyment. The emphasis on friendly cricket, without the pressure of league ranking to worry about, has enabled a wide range of ages and abilities to find a place in the playing ranks. There are nine club members over 50 years old, with five of those being over 60.

Ian Hughes, Chairman of Lichfield Nomads Cricket Club, said, “We are delighted to have the support of the M6toll. The bowling machine makes a real difference to the quality of our practice sessions. It makes us feel like professional cricketers. Time will tell if it makes a difference to our results. Our hopes are high for the coming season!”

Kelly Bourne, MEL’s Social Committee Member said: “It was a pleasure to join some of the club members during one of their winter nets sessions at Landau Forte sixth form college, in Tamworth. It’s a delight to be able to help support a local cricket team which will hopefully see many more experienced players joining the club and supporting their pledge to uphold ‘the spirit of the game’. Everyone at MEL wishes them every success for the forthcoming season”.

Each year, MEL donates £50,000 through its Drive for Charity project. MEL's Social Committee works closely with members of staff to choose community projects close to their hearts which will benefit from a donation from the Drive for Charity fund.

MEL's Social Committee is always looking for local charities and community projects to support. To register your charity or community project with MEL for consideration to receive fundraising or practical (volunteering) support now or in the future visit for further information or email
