Applications open for M6toll’s £40k charity fund

Midland Expressway Ltd, the operators of the M6toll road, have re-launched their Drive for Charity initiative for 2017, supporting local charities and larger charities with a local focus, to the tune of £40,000.

Since the toll road opened in 2003, Midland Expressway Ltd (MEL) has had a long-standing commitment to the local community. Over the past 14 years the company has donated over  £830,000 to local charities including Staffordshire-based family bereavement charity Violets in Bloom, Queen Elizabeth Birmingham Hospital’s Fisher House unit for injured and sick soldiers, and Staffordshire Search and Rescue, for whom MEL supplied a brand new vehicle. The company has also supported national charities with a local focus including Marie Curie Cancer Care, and the NSPCC.

In addition, MEL has a number of other charitable and community initiatives including The M6toll Hospice Partnership, a joint venture involving the 4 hospices which are situated along the M6toll corridor, a long-standing partnership with Midlands Air Ambulance Charity and initiatives with local schools and youth focused sporting associations.

James Hodson, MEL’s Director of Motorway Operations & Facilities, said, "All of our chosen charities support their communities in different ways. Midlands Air Ambulance Charity has always had a huge influence on our team due to the precious work they do without any government funding – their work on the Midlands road systems is vital, and they have helped to save many lives. This year, we want to find at least one more outstanding charity to share our £40,000 donation alongside Midlands Air Ambulance Charity. We are urging charities to submit an application for this year’s initiative. Our social committee and the wider M6toll road team are extremely proud to be able to offer both monetary donations and also voluntary time to such worthy causes."

The M6toll continues to have a substantially positive impact on the local economy and is committed to responsibly investing in the community in which it operates. It has also positively impacted on the surrounding region with increased investment in logistics spurring the creation of thousands of jobs, and supporting above average land/commercial property price growth.
