Full steam ahead for Railway project thanks to M6toll

Staff from Midland Expressway Ltd (operators of the M6toll) recently visited Chasewater Railway after providing them with £1,000 towards their fundraising campaign.

Midland Expressway Limited’s (MEL) donation was a great boost to the £20,000 funding needed for the installation of a canopy at the Chasewater Heaths Station which is part of the plans to improve and develop the station for visitors.

Chasewater Railway operates heritage steam and diesel trains on certain days throughout the year and is operated by volunteers who give up their valuable spare time to restore, maintain and develop the railway and associated infrastructure to help tell the story of the local area and its industrial heritage.

The Railway operates passenger trains from Brownhills West and Chasewater Heaths stations to Chasetown Church Street, with an intermediate halt at Norton Lakeside which is a round trip of nearly 4 miles.

Mark Sealey, Chairman of Chasewater Railway said: “Chasewater Railway thanks the M6toll for their donation towards our canopy fund for the Heaths Station. The money has been used to draw up a detailed plan for the canopy and we look forward to using the same in the construction phase. The finished job will greatly enhance the look and use of the station at Chasewater Heaths.”

John Holmes, MEL Social Committee Member added: “It was a real pleasure to visit Chasewater Railway and see how much work is carried out by the volunteers who maintain and develop the railway. I will certainly look forward to revisiting the station to see the new canopy in situ."

MEL’s donation forms part of a wider initiative to support local schools and community projects. MEL's Social Committee work closely with members of staff to choose those community projects close to their hearts which will benefit from a donation from the Drive for Charity fund.

MEL's Social Committee is always on the lookout for local charities and community projects to support.
