M6toll give fundraising boost to Stafford Pensioner

Staff from Midland Expressway Ltd (MEL), operators on the M6toll, visited Katharine House Hospice in Stafford recently to present an active supporter of the Hospice with a donation towards his latest fundraising challenge.

MEL have generously provided £500 sponsorship to Ivan Poole from Stafford who will be taking part in a 10 day trek across the Sahara Desert in March to raise funds for the increasing running costs of the hospice; which currently stands at £2.9 million per year. Ivan, who has lost several friends and his Sister- in-law to cancer, is an active member of the ‘Cannock Friends of Katherine House Hospice’ a group that support the wonderful work of Katharine House Hospice in Stafford through organising different fundraising events. Ivan is involved in a number of fundraising projects for the Hospice but wanted to make a more personal contribution and is hoping to raise a minimum of £2,000 through the expedition.

Ivan said: “It is difficult to put into words how grateful both I and Katharine House are for Midland Expressway Ltd’s contribution, we can’t thank them enough. Seeing the work that goes on at Katharine House really brings home the need for continuous fundraising.”

Holly Addison, Corporate Fundraiser at Katharine House Hospice added; “On behalf of the hospice, we are so grateful to M6toll for donating such a generous amount towards Ivan’s sponsorship. It is fantastic to see a local business helping local people in this way. It has given Ivan a huge boost towards his fundraising goal and their support will help us to continue to provide care to local people with life-limiting illnesses and their families.”

Sheena Hawkins, MEL’s Social Committee member said: “We at MEL take great pleasure in supporting the Hospice in enabling them to continue to provide a ‘place of sanctuary and support’ to numerous local people affected by life-limiting conditions. We wish Ivan every success with his future fundraising efforts.”

MEL’s donation forms part of a wider initiative to support local schools and community projects. MEL's Social Committee work closely with members of staff to choose those community projects close to their hearts which will benefit from a donation from the Drive for Charity fund.

MEL's Social Committee is always on the lookout for local charities and community projects to support.
