May 2004

M6toll releases traffic figures for May 2004.

Tom Fanning, Managing Director of Midland Expressway Limited today said, "During May average daily traffic on the M6toll continued its solid performance with a 39.8% increase since January 2004. All previous records were broken on Friday 28th May with the M6toll recording 66,295 vehicles, its highest day of traffic yet.

"May's average daily traffic of 42,862 (down 4%) was negatively impacted by the two additional weekend/public holidays in May, as compared with April, however, work day traffic remained relatively flat for the period.

"Traffic numbers for the May Bank Holidays (38,802 and 42,245 respectively) showed that the M6toll is proving a popular route for people looking to get away for a long weekend.

"The M6toll looks forward to a busy summer and continuing to provide an excellent service to our customers. We also have a vital role to play in keeping the region moving, as one of the alternative routes suggested by the Highways Agency to avoid the road works on the M6 expected to commence in June, " Mr Fanning said.
