Hugh Grant unveils new Burntwood Community First Responder Car - Friday 2nd May 2014
Burntwood and District Community First Responders had a very special guest unveil their new Community Responder Vehicle in the form of actor Hugh Grant.
Burntwood CFR respond to emergency calls in partnership with West Midlands Ambulance Service, this service is manned entirely by volunteers and they receive no external funding. This means they fundraise for everything from vehicle fuel through to uniforms and driver training. The Burntwood and District scheme began in June 2013 and currently has five active responders with an additional three members undertaking training. The new Skoda Octavia scout vehicle was purchased after a fundraising effort saw £25,000 collected.
Hugh Grant ambassador for the scheme, said: "The least I can do is unveil this car. "The scheme is clearly a brilliant thing and it's amazing to think the car can save someone's life."
Paul Dadge, Burntwood & District CFR chairman, said: "Replacing the car would not have been possible without the generous contributions from our local community, parish, county councils and businesses. "Today is a thank you to all those who have helped us in the last few months."
Midland Expressway Ltd supplied Burntwood and District Community First Responders with an M6toll Tag for their first responder vehicle, enabling them to use the road free of charge.
