Vehicle Classification

Vehicles are charged different prices on the M6toll according to the classification they fall into, which toll plaza they pass though and the time of the day. Classification is determined by our vehicle classification measurement system. We set the charges independently of the DVLA and other toll operations in the UK.

Which class is your vehicle?

Each time you enter a toll lane our sensors tell us how many axles your vehicle has (including trailers) and how high it is at the point of the first axle. This information tells us which class your vehice falls into.

Notes

The classification of your vehicle can vary if...

• the height of your vehicle is altered by the load you are carrying
• you modify your vehicle (e.g. larger/small wheels, altered suspension)
• you are carrying an external load over the front axle
