Vehicles are charged different prices according to the classification they fall into, which toll station they pass through and the time of day.
Vehicles travelling on the M6 Toll are charged according to vehicle classification as determined by our classification measurement system. We set the charges for the different classifications and they're independent of the DVLA and other toll roads.
Each time you enter a toll lane our sensors tell us how many axles your vehicle has (including trailers) and how high it is at the point of the first axle. This information tells us which class your vehicle falls into. View our height measurement guide for examples of where the height measurement is taken from. Please note:-
i) the classification of your vehicle can vary if the height of your vehicle is altered by a change in the load you are carrying.
ii) the classification of your vehicle can vary if you accessorise your vehicle. (e.g. enlarged air intake in bonnet)
iii) the classification of your vehicle can vary if you are carrying an external load over the front axle.
