Highways England Roadworks

M6 J2-4 Smart motorway scheme night roadworks affecting access to M6toll road

From 12th March, there will be a series of night time closures (21:00-06:00) of the M6 from junctions 2-4 as part of the conversion of the M6 into an “all-lane running” smart motorway. These closures will be in place on and off over the next 2 years. (For latest timetable of closures click here)

Your journeys may be affected by this as closures will impact access to / from the M6 at the southern end of the M6toll. Access to the M42 will not be impacted. During the M6 closures, diversionary routes will be put in place potentially adding extra time to your journey.

We want to make sure you are aware of this so you can plan accordingly, and we want to show you a route that best suits your situation depending on the time criticality of your journeys. The fastest of these options may still add 25 mins to your journey versus your current M6toll routing.

There are two separate routes one for cars and vans and another for heavy goods vehicles. The diversion routes are the same in both northbound and southbound directions.
