How are the M6toll vs M6 time savings calculated?
The time savings displayed on the M6toll website and other platforms are calculated using real-time, publicly available data from Google via the Google API service.
The time savings (when taking a trip on M6toll vs M6) are calculated using two fair and comparable latitudes and longitudes north and south of each end of the toll and are applicable for end to end journeys. The real-time savings are calculated every 30 minutes.
The ‘save up to 25 minutes at peak times’ statement has also been calculated using Google data from June 2025. This ’25 minutes’ figure has been calculated via the Google API, by recording time savings during peak traffic periods, e.g. between 6am and 8am on weekday mornings during June 2025.
Whilst the maximum mean time savings on an average per weekday in June 2025 are 45 minutes, a time-saving figure of ‘up to 25 minutes’ is more representative of the median average at peak times.
Actual time savings on using M6toll vs M6 will vary, dependent on the time of day, the day of the week and traffic conditions.
M6toll cannot guarantee the time saved by using M6toll vs M6 and are reliant on the accuracy of Google data to provide the time saving calculations. Please use your own judgement to decide whether the M6toll will save you time. M6toll cannot be held responsible for any inaccuracies in our data, in the unlikely event that the data from the Google API is incorrect.
