A toll lot fairer
From 6th April 2024, we’re changing the way we charge you to use the M6toll.
Currently the price you pay is determined by the toll plaza you pass through. Thanks to our £20m investment in a new automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) camera system, we can now price your journey based on where you join and leave the road.
How much will it cost?
There won’t be many changes initially whilst we bed-in the system. However, if you use the intermediate junctions, we’re simplifying the prices to ensure you pay the same in both directions.

How do I pay?
You need to tap your card/device on the contactless reader as you pass through the toll plaza to open the barrier. Your card issuer will approve the maximum toll for your vehicle type – it will usually show as a ‘pending’ payment in your account.
The final price is calculated once you leave the road. This is usually within a few hours, although it can take up to 48 hours if we need to double-check any images from our ANPR cameras. Once the price has been worked out, you’ll be able to download a receipt.
