Innovation in motion: our vehicles switch to renewable HVO fuel

We are taking another important step towards reducing our environmental impact by transitioning our diesel fleet to Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil, known as HVO.

HVO is a renewable alternative to conventional diesel, made from 99.9% renewable raw materials, including vegetable oils, animal oils and fats. It can be used in existing diesel engines without requiring engine replacements or modifications and has the potential to reduce net CO₂ emissions by up to 90%.

Our diesel fleet includes 11 vehicles and seven generators. Before making the switch, every fuel tank was drained, cleaned and serviced. Key generator parts were also replaced to ensure that our equipment was fully prepared to use HVO safely and effectively.

As well as helping to lower our net CO₂ emissions, HVO offers several operational benefits:

  • A cleaner burn to support engine performance
  • A long storage life
  • Reliable performance in low temperatures

The transition is forecast to help reduce our organisation’s net CO₂ emissions by nearly 50% compared with 2025. Further reductions are expected in 2027, following our first full year of using HVO across the fleet.

Customers travelling on the M6toll may also begin to spot new “this vehicle runs on renewable fuel” stickers on some of our vehicles.

The move demonstrates innovation in motion, using a practical renewable fuel solution to reduce our environmental impact while continuing to deliver a safe, reliable service for our customers.
