Not Your Average Night on the Motorway: New Electric Incident Response Vehicle Supports Overnight Rescue
While many people across the West Midlands were looking to the skies for a double meteor shower, our motorway operations team were focused on keeping customers, colleagues and contractors safe on the M6toll.
Our motorway operations team had a busy night on Thursday 30 July, responding to an unexpected incident while also checking in on important overnight works across the network.
Using our brand new electric Incident Response Vehicle, the team attended a broken down horse transport vehicle just south of Weeford Plaza. Cones were quickly deployed to create a safe working area and keep passing traffic at a safe distance, helping to keep both the customer and the horse calm.
With the support of the wider operations team, a rolling block was put in place and southbound traffic was temporarily held at the plaza. This enabled the vehicle to be safely moved so the horse could be transferred, before the vehicle was relocated to a safe area ready for later collection.
The incident was one of the first operational outings for our new electric Incident Response Vehicle, highlighting our continued investment in safer, more sustainable ways of working.
Later that evening, the team inspected a number of planned overnight activities, including bridge painting works on the M42 overbridge, replacement of traffic dollies with more durable alternatives, litter picking, vegetation clearance and improvement works at the motorway service area.
By coordinating multiple activities within a single traffic management closure, teams were able to carry out essential works efficiently while helping to reduce disruption for road users.
It was a great example of the work that happens behind the scenes on the M6toll, from helping customers in need to maintaining and improving the network.
Well done to everyone involved for another brilliant demonstration of teamwork, safety in action and going the extra mile.
